As the Conservative Councillor for Bewdley town and district I am furious at the interfering actions of District Council Leader Elizabeth Davies who requested that the Head of Culture Leisure and Commercial Services at the District Council write to Bewdley Town Council and suggest that they take over the lease and annual maintenance costs for Public Open Space Land along the riverside in Bewdley which WFDC currently lease from the County Council.

The Land known locally as Gas Meadow Works meanders along the River Severn and is well used by local people for picnics and recreational purposes. I am staggered that the Leader of the district council who also happens to be a Town Councillor in Bewdley should act in this matter. It is grossly unfair that the future of this land should be raised in this way by Mrs Davies when she should be working for Bewdley.

I have raised this matter with my electorate through a newsletter and suggested that they write to Kay Hickman at the district council to express their horror at this possible loss of land which is zoned for public open space. I also moved a motion at the recent Town Council Meeting that was unanimously supported to urge the district council to retain this land for the benefit of all the residents in the district.
