What have I done to "Save our Hospital" ?

My record is second to none......

May 1998 Elected to Wyre Forest District Council.

June 1998 Wrote to the Prime Minister objecting to Hospital Closure Threat.

August 1998 Wrote objecting to Pat Archer Jones.

September 1998 Ann Widdecombe visited Kidderminster Hospital.

October 1998 Government introduced "Investing in Excellence"

December 1998 Alan Millburn wrote his letter.

February 1999 Elected to the County Council.

March 1999 Appointed to the Community Health Council.

April 1999 Led a delegation to Brussels to lobby support from our MEPs in the European Parliament.

May 1999 Following the visit to Brussels Malcomb Harbour (MEP) came to Kidderminster and visited the Hospital to give support to my lobbying.

April 2000 Led a delegation of likeminded Wyre Forest residents to Westminster to lobby the support of Julie Kirkbride MP & Michael Portillo MP.

Since my appointment to the CHC, I have attended over 110 Meetings for the CHC or 330 hours of my time.

What have my opponents done?

Well not a great deal!

I have had opponents for the County, District and Town Council elections during the past three years - and seen them all off!

The electorate in Bewdley Ward and Chaddesley Division tell me "we know a worker when we see one"

What is interseting is that all my political opponents who have stood to "save the hospital" have done nothing afterwards to bring back any services to Kidderminster. Many of the elected "save our hospital" councillors have done nothing either!

Would you believe that when Health is on the agenda at County Hall we very rairly see any "save our hospital" councillors!

Some of my press statements;

Press Statement No 1

I am deeply concerned that in the height of the English summer, beds at Worcester Royal Infirmary are at bursting point, and due to demand the WRI closed for business on 17th & 19th July 2000!

Patients are being put into the Children's ward at Ronkswood to help alleviate this disaster!

It has also been brought to my attention that GPs can no longer refer patients to hospital, but must admit them under Emergency Calls. In 1998 1,750 bed days on the surgical unit were filled with medical cases. In 1997 it was 1,200 today it is 3,750. That means we have a serious bed shortage.

Patients are having to spending their life savings on coronary surgery - Is this Tony Blairs answer to Health Care?

It is terrible that a 92 year old Worcestershire Lady treated in the casualty department at the WRI last week was released at 5.00am in the morning the following day and died before she arrived home!

Press Statement No 2

The Worcestershire Division of the British Medical Council are stating "unless plans are revised they fear there will be unnecessary deaths in the Western parts of the County of Kidderminster"

The Secretary of State for Health on 25th July speaking in the House of Commons stated "the extended consultation exercises were carefully examined by the Health Authority and were approved by Ministers" as Mr. Lock is a Government Minister did he approve the plans ?

6 out of every 10 patients taken to Kidderminsters, A & E Department will be taken to Worcester. On Tuesday 25th July 2000 Mr. Peter Luff Conservative MP for Mid-Worcestershire secured a parliamentary debate on Hospital Services in Worcestershire, and our own Wyre Forest M.P David Lock failed to attend the debate - shame on you, how can you properly represent your constituents when you do not listen to what's going on!

It is time Mr. Lock went, and quickly. Many constituents and I have urged him to consider his position, save Tony Blairs embarrassment at the next election at loosing a Government Minister and resign his seat early. Unfortunately Mr. Lock will not Let the People of Wyre Forest have their say, so we must wait, just 246 days longer before we elect a Candidate who will stand up for the people of this Town.

I believe this is a cover up says Councillor Clee adding "Mr Harold Musgrove should consider his position in light of the Health Minister's announcement"
